Key Issues

There are a lot of important issues facing our State today. These four issues are among the most pressing. They will be among my highest priorities if I am elected.

Government Reform

State and Local Governments have a lot of room for improvement. Here are a few of my platform issues related to Government Reform:

-I support the creation of an independent Inspector General to police government, monitor contracts, and enforce the standards of government services.

-I recognize the power of voter initiative and fully support giving that power to the voters of Rhode Island.

Taxes and Spending

Rhode Island has one of the highest tax burdens in the country. When revenues decline, the State resorts to increased taxes to fill in the hole rather than reduce spending. Here are a few of my platform issues:

- I support the creation of a Taxpayer's Bill of Rights to provide a responsible limit on taxes and spending for the citizens of Rhode Island.

- I support government reform and the efforts of the Executive Branch to reduce bureaucracy, increase efficiency of government agencies, and provide better services to the people of Rhode Island.

Economic Development

The only way to improve our economic picture is through responsible and well thought-out economic development. This approach should address both the business aspect as well as the preservation of open space. Some options are:

- I support a statewide Transfer of Development Rights program to promote sustainable development in all of the communities of the state and preserve valuable open space.

- I support the engaging of public-private partnerships to better invest in the preservation of open space and the improvement of public parks and recreation facilities.
