Dan was born in Providence and grew up in Portsmouth, where he attended St. Philomena's School. In 2007, he graduated from Saint Andrew's School in Boca Raton, Florida, where he was chosen to be the commencement speaker. After graduation, Dan returned to Rhode Island to attend Bryant University, where he was named to the Dean's List during his freshman year.

Currently completing his studies at Providence College, he is pursuing a major in Management with a minor in Public Administration. Active in the Boy Scouts of America in both Rhode Island and Florida, Dan achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 2007. He has been active in many different community organizations including the Fort Adams Trust and the Aquidneck Land Trust. He also is a disaster volunteer with the American Red Cross, East Bay Branch in Middletown.

Dan strongly believes in the importance of civic duty. He has demonstrated his dedication volunteering to serve on the Lower Glen Farm Preservation Committee and the Glen Park Working Committee, both in Portsmouth. He has also represented the Glen Park Working Committee at meetings of the Portsmouth Economic Development Committee. While a student in Florida, Dan volunteered with the American Red Cross Disaster Relief Teams, assisting the victims of five hurricanes which struck Florida in a two year period.

Dan is a nationally-registered Emergency Medical Technician and currently volunteers in Jamestown and Bristol for Jamestown Emergency Medical Services and Bristol Fire-Rescue, respectively. While serving in Jamestown, Dan has led the charge on several committees tasked with by-laws, policies and procedures, and capital purchases. Dan is a member of the Rhode Island Medical Reserve Corps, and was most recently involved in the 2010 swine flu vaccination program in Portsmouth.

His love of the outdoors is evident by his work in Portsmouth, his years in the Boy Scouts program, and also by his work with the State Department of Environmental Management as a State Park Ranger during the summer months.
